A Community Within The Community
park forest cooperativePark Forest - twice an "All America City" - is home to working persons, scholars and scientists, elected officials, and members of all ethnic and racial groupings.

Park Forest Cooperative, Inc. - Birch Street Townhomes is the first housing co-op chartered in Park Forest, also has been "home" to young and old, and even a few of the famous, including former United Nations Ambassador, Philip Klutznik, who built the townhomes.

Illinois Gov. Jim Edgar and wife Brenda, for example, made Park Forest Cooperative their home when they were first married. And Art Hodes, the late internationally renowned jazz pianist, was a Birch Street resident at the time of his death in 1993.

It All Adds Up to Truly Pleasant Living!
Park Forest Cooperative is the winning combination!

Established in the early 1960s, Park Forest Cooperative has become the home of Park Forest residents of all ages. While many young families find it to be the ideal starter home, a large number of others believe it is the right spot for retirement while persons of all ages fill in between.

Today, Park Forest Cooperative residents are a fairly even mix of young families, middle-aged adults, and senior citizens. About 7 percent of the Cooperative Memberships change ownership during an average year, with many of those who sell moving elsewhere in Park Forest.

The variety of townhome designs available in Park Forest Cooperative often results in residents moving from one place within the Cooperative to another as their needs for space change. While most are two-bedroom interiors, a large number of three-bedroom end townhomes, and both two-bedroom and three-bedroom duplexes also are available. Some even feature carports.

Young families often find that Park Forest Cooperative not only is affordable while permitting them to build up some financial equity, but also offers a safe environment for the raising of young children. Two playground areas within the Co-op allow children to be close to home while playing outside, and also minimizes the need to cross busy streets.

Seniors most often comment about safety and about the convenience of having an on-going maintenance staff that responds to resident needs. Seniors who travel to other parts of the country during the colder season have an increased sense of security about their homes while they are gone because they know Park Forest Cooperative management will be on the lookout.

Other residents, many of whom either are "empty-nesters" or may live alone, also find the Cooperative to be the ideal residential community. Friendships have flourished among Cooperative residents, and many continue to visit one another long after they have moved elsewhere.

Is it any wonder so many persons are proud to call Park Forest Cooperative "home"?
